About Baret Scholars

Baret Scholars is a unique, one-year journey through seven world capitals and their surrounding regions. Inspired by Jeanne Baret, the first woman to circumnavigate the globe in 1766, this programme allows students to explore the world, understand its diverse cultures and discover their purpose.

Alongside expert faculty, scholars will travel to:

• New York and North America
• São Paulo and Latin America
• Paris and Europe
• Istanbul and the Middle East
• Nairobi and Africa
• New Delhi and South Asia
• Beijing and East Asia

The goal of Baret Scholars is to offer high school graduates a rich, multidisciplinary global experience before or during their higher education. By doing so, students will develop into stronger, more well-rounded individuals prepared for future academic pursuits. 

About the UWC scholarship programme

The Baret Scholars-UWC scholarship programme offers UWC students the opportunity to apply for one of six prestigious scholarships:

• Three (3) scholarships of 20,000 USD
• Two (2) scholarships of 30,000 USD
• One (1) scholarship of 40,000 USD

These scholarships are available for the 2025-2026 academic year and are open to UWC students around the world.

How to apply

UWC students can apply directly via the Baret Scholars website. When completing the 'You inside the Classroom' section of the application, be sure to select that you belong to the UWC school system.
