(RE)Defining Equality

31 August 2025

14 JULY - 27 JULY 2025

(RE)Defining Equality is a UWC and Erasmus+ short course dedicated to the exploration of 'equality' in our multifaceted world and its implications in shaping a brighter future for all. Spending two weeks in the Austrian Alps, 40 participants will be engaging with the meaning behind this ever-present notion in different cultural, socio-economic and political contexts.

  • Is equality always necessary for justice?
  • Has our understanding of equality changed over time?
  • These are just a few of the kinds of questions participants will find themselves grappling with collectively.

Through workshops led by short course facilitators, external speakers as well as visits to local initiatives, participants will not only be able to reflect on their own experiences in relation to questions of equality but also draw from the diverse perspectives of their peers to work together in redefining what equality might mean today. For this purpose, the programme will consist of a mix of on-site activities and opportunities to discover the local Austrian culture to foster a close sense of community in combination with sincere intercultural understanding.

The fundamental aim of this short course is to move towards action in the promotion of equality by mobilising the breadth of motivations, insights and connections gained during these two weeks. Through the planning of self-initiated projects in their own communities, participants will finally get the chance to conceive of themselves as capable agents of change and extend their Short Course experience beyond the time spent in Imst.
