There are multiple job vacancies at UWC East Africa, including Head of Student Life, English and Drama Teacher, Inclusion Teacher, and Economics and Business Teacher.
Head of Student Life
This leadership role primarily deals with the pastoral and residential side of students’ interactions on campus. The role works with our counselors, mentors and health center to oversee the emotional and physical wellbeing of all students. This includes working with the student government on school activities to promote a sense of student engagement and ownership in school practices. Ensuring the UWC philosophy is shared and understood consistently among students and staff through orientation, workshops and other means. It also requires close work with our Academic leadership to look after the whole student. This role also deals with student disciplinary issues that arise for non-academic situations. On the residential side, the successful applicant will be in charge of a residential community numbering about 225 students at the MYP and DP level and supported by an assistant head and 11 other residential parents. This position has a minor teaching commitment which can be carried out in any available subject. This position is on the Moshi campus.
English and Drama Teacher
We are seeking a dynamic and creative English and Drama teacher mostly at the MYP level but with the possibility of Diploma classes. Applicants should possess a degree in English, a teaching qualification and at least three years of experience teaching an international curriculum. Teachers with experience in the IB Diploma or MYP Programme are encouraged to apply. As part of the philosophy at UWCEA all secondary teachers have a portion of their teaching allotment set aside for working in the residential setting. This is a full-time position on our Moshi Campus starting in August 2025.
Inclusion Teacher
We seek a dedicated and enthusiastic Inclusion teacher. You will play a vital role in providing one-on-one and small group assistance to help students excel academically and develop essential learning skills. This position offers an incredible opportunity to impact the lives of students and contribute to their overall growth and success. Applicants should possess a degree in special education, a teaching qualification and at least three years of experience in an international environment. Teachers with experience in IB are preferred. This is a full-time position on our Moshi Campus starting in August 2025.
Economics and Business Teacher
We seek a teacher of Economics and Business at the DP level that can teach theory, but also bring in practical experience to the students. Applicants should possess a degree in Economics or business education, a teaching qualification and at least three years of experience teaching an international curriculum. Teachers with experience in IB are preferred. As part of the philosophy at UWCEA all secondary teachers have a portion of their teaching allotment set aside for working in the residential setting. This is a full-time position on our Moshi Campus starting in August 2025.
Application process
Any applications for either Moshi or Arusha Campus should include a full CV/résumé and the names and addresses (including e-mail addresses) of three professional referees. It is important to include details of any family members who may accompany you; we are unlikely to offer employment to a spouse unless as part of a teaching couple and local employment opportunities are extremely limited. Current Tanzanian regulations mean that we are only able to consider teachers under fifty-five years of age who have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience.
As a minimum requirement, all applicants for teaching positions must have a first degree and a teaching qualification that entitles them to teach in their home country. International teaching experience is also desired. All teachers of diploma level subjects are required to have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience at a similar level, such as IB Diploma, AP, or Advanced Level experience.
For many teaching positions, experience of teaching IB PYP, MYP or Diploma (as appropriate) will be a significant advantage, but is not specifically required.
