The UWC short course will touch on issues within economic, environmental and social sustainability – and their several intersections – to give young participants a chance to rethink sustainability in all its rich complexity.

These themes will be explored in a non-formal learning setting, including self-led projects, interactive workshops, debates, reflections, guest speakers, etc. Participants will engage in discussions on sustainability, and will be encouraged to envision the world in terms of a sustainable future and to contribute to this vision.

In 2022, Building a Sustainable Future will be run in two courses, with one taking place online, and the other in-person:

Dates: 27 June until 31 July (online course); 25 July until 13 August (in-person course)

Location: online (stable Internet connection required); in-person (at Zebra Kagel - close to the German capital Berlin) 

Participant age requirement: online course: 14-19 years at the time of the course; in-person course: 15-19 years at the time of the course

Other requirements: Both courses are looking for open-minded young people interested in sustainability that are willing to reflect and work on the topic together with many others. The online course requires participants to have a stable Internet connection. The in-person course has Covid-19 regulations in place that require participants to be vaccinated by an EU approved vaccine

Course fee: online course: no fee existing - however, we present our participants with the challenge of doing their own fundraising, in order to enable another participant to take part in the online course in the coming year. In-person course: around EURO 450 for accommodation and board (travelling costs are not included)
