Making the World a Better Place Through Healthcare
Anna Maria Braun (UWC Atlantic College 1996-98) is a member of the management board of of B. Braun Melsungen AG, a family-owned healthcare company with 64,000 employees worldwide. Since being appointed to the Management Board in 2016 she has been responsible for all B. Braun operations in the Asia Pacific region - and in April 2019 will assume the position of Chair of the company’s Management Board.
After studying the IB Diploma Programme at UWC Atlantic College, inspired by her UWC experience Anna spent a gap year in China. She then went on to study law in the United States and Germany, where she worked as a lawyer before joining B. Braun at its regional headquarters for the Asia Pacific region. She is married with three children and has lived in Malaysia for more than seven years.
“Even though it has been nearly 20 years since I was a student at UWC Atlantic College, I recognise the impact these two years had on me almost every day,” says Anna. She credits the path of her career in part to her UWC experience: “My passion to work for a company that strives to protect and improve the health of people around the world and to contribute even in the smallest way to this vision is rooted in the experiences, exchanges and friendships I was privileged to make back then.”
Like many other alumni of the UWC movement, Anna thanks her UWC education for shaping the way she sees the world and her responsibility for it. “Through UWC the world for me is not a collection of countries or regions, it is a map of faces, people and friends I care for. And it is because of this that even in times when life is very demanding - which it can be for all of us - I remember: Only if I, if we, care for each other, will we make this world a better place!”
