Mini-UWC / Changshu, China

11 August 2018

2 August 2018 - 10 August 2018

Course Summary

Mini-UWC is a 9-day short course organized by All china sc 1Students for Action Program (ASAP), an initiative of UWC Changshu China students, that aims to develop and spread the idea of “All for Action” and holds the principle of “learning, practicing and changing”.

The theme for this year’s Mini-UWC  is “Ripple”. This theme was chosen based on the belief that participants in the program are ripples as they instigate change daily in small and big ways from helping an individual to contributing to the creation of a sustainable community.

During the course, participants are encouraged to initiate social service programs that will be presented at the end of Mini-UWC, and later realised in their own respective communities to create sustainable positive change.

Key Program Components

Project Development
Participants are encouraged to identify problems within their communities and create projects to tackle them. Throughout the process, we will assist participants by offering skill building sessions such as need identification and problem-solving, together with optional workshops on practical topics such as budgeting. We will assess participants’ projects at the end of the camp and provide constructive feedback for making those projects more effective. In the long term, our development department will follow up with the progress of the projects.

UWC Experience
Participants will be brought into an environment as energetic and interactive as a regular UWC school or college. Mini-UWC will also provide participants with the unique residential experience that UWC students live in. By living together, each participant can establish a stronger bond with their fellow participants and also with their counselors.

Activities
Mini-UWC offers a series of activities such as a scavenger hunt, theatre, and sport events. We encourage participants to leave their comfort zone and try out something new and challenging. Participants will develop leadership and collaboration skills whilst having a great time.
