Finland, UWC Atlantic College (2015-2017)
“UWC Atlantic College has had, since its creation, a very strong relationship with the Bristol Channel and it is also the birthplace of the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). This attracted me to join Inshore Rescue Boats (IRB) , and to develop my seafaring skills. Driving a boat in the Bristol Channel has been very humbling and provided me with huge respect for the sea. Moreover, the lifesaving and team building skills I have developed through IRB are invaluable and highly transferable to other aspects of life. Driving on a boat which I have been part of building is very rewarding. Furthermore, building boats to assist in the migrant crisis in Europe or set up a lifeboat station in Japan has given global scope to the activities we do on the Welsh coast. IRB has been an integral part of my time at Atlantic College with me always looking forward to going to service. It has provided a great balance to academic life.”
