UWC South East Asia welcomes first students to groundbreaking Systems Transformation Leadership course
Forty students from across UWC South East Asia (UWC SEA) Dover and East campuses start their two-year journey this month on the pioneering Systems Transformation: Leadership for Change International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) pilot course.
Systems Transformation - being developed across four schools, including UWC Atlantic, forms part of the International Baccalaureate’s wide-ranging review of the IBDP and Careers Programme, concluding in 2030. It takes the place of two Standard-Level courses, and unlocks greater flexibility for students in their other subject choices. Conceived to explore new assessment models and experiential learning within the IBDP, this pilot also provides unique and powerful ways to connect to the UWC mission.
At UWC SEA, Systems Transformation: Leadership for Change will offer students an immersive experience of project-based learning, focused on five transferable, transdisciplinary strands: Systems Thinking; Design Thinking; Project Management; Leadership for Positive Change; and Changemaker Mindset. The College has taken the opportunity to strengthen and expand its partnerships within the Singapore community, with leading voices in sustainability, peacebuilding, and intercultural understanding keen to work with students as mentors and project partners.
Course co-designer (and UWC SEA alumnus), Eivind Lodemel sees Systems Transformation as “part of a much more bespoke and relevant IB package that supports each individual student’s path,” pairing idealism and ambition with “pragmatic thinking and practical solutions to make a lasting impact.”
"I'm excited to be part of learning in the real world, just stepping out beyond the classroom and making an impact and seeing everything we're learning in the classroom and how it can affect communities.”
