Mountain run raises £1000

Two supporters complete a 520km run to support UWC scholarships

UWC supporters Piotr Holysz and Ed Greig have completed a gruelling 520km run through the mountains from the Polish border with Ukraine to the border with the Czech Republic and have raised £1,125 to support the scholarship fund for UWC Poland.

Piotr and Ed completed the 520km challenge – called the Beskidzki Trail in seven days, reaching their final destination just 12 minutes before the train left to take them home.

The trail includes a number of mountains –including climbs of up to 2800 metres. As well as mountains, they had to battle with rain, mud and cold, one day not reaching their shelter for the night until 4am.

Piotr, who has supported the National Committee of Poland for a number of years and met many UWC graduates when studying at Harvard University, USA says “The task we have set ourselves forth was unbelievably challenging but this has garnered us many supporters and elicited a response from a wide network of family, friends and colleagues that resulted in nearly quadrupling of our initial fundraising target (initially set at £300)”

“In linking our sponsored run to the United World Colleges we were hoping to support UWC’s mission by raising money for scholarships for some of the most talented and promising youth in the world and raise awareness about UWC’s mission and goals. We also wanted to show the entire alumni and supporter network that one can not only aim high and battle all obstacles to reach the finish line but also effectively and directly support UWC at the same time.

“Both Ed and I are very proud to have completed our insane adventure while also being able to raise some funds for, what we believe is, a very good cause.”
